Greg Bird's malicious assault charge dropped

Gil Taylor | 20/11/08 | 0

A major charge has been dropped against rugby league star Greg Bird accused of glassing his girlfriend.

The prosecution has dropped the charge of maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm, relating to the incident that left girlfriend Katie Milligan with a fractured eye socket and cuts to the face.

But Bird still faces several charges, including reckless wounding and making a false accusation.

The Cronulla Sharks and NSW Origin star and Australian international is accused of glassing Ms Milligan in his flat last August.

He also allegedly put the blame on his friend and flatmate Brent Watson for the incident.

Bird faces a three-day hearing on the remaining charges, from April 27 next year.

At that hearing, 17 witnesses are expected to be called.

While I understand these events are not to be taken lightly, would the media please stop reporting that Katie had a fractured eye socket, as it was announced that that was not the case. Posted by: Blogger ., Cronulla, Australia Reply

20/11/2008 9:31:59 PM No matter if it was an eye socket, or a cut or anything. Violence against women is just a gutless cheap act.
