Sheens rejects Tigers' call to sack Benji

Senior Wests Tigers players have reportedly called for Benji Marshall to be dropped for this weekend’s must-win game against the Sharks after the playmaker went out drinking last weekend.

News Limited has reported Marshall’s teammates were unhappy he went drinking after the Tigers’ 48-16 defeat to Manly last Saturday.

But Wests coach Tim Sheens has retained his star five-eighth, saying there was no reason for Marshall not to be picked.

"Why not? Is he injured? Benji will definitely play first grade this week," Sheens said.

Sheens did say that changes would be made as the Tigers chase a top eight finish.

"If we've got to make changes then players will be tapped on the shoulder and changes will be made," Sheens said.

"I don't like to use that as a stick but the reality is changes need to be made.

"There are a couple of changes in the side this week."

Robbie Farah has been named to return at hooker this week, but still must overcome an ankle injury.

The Tigers sit on 24 competition points, in 12th place on the ladder but just two points outside the top eight.

26/08/2008 11:56:04 PM The Tigers are going great guns, all they have to do is win 3 games from the remaining 2 rounds to qualify for the finals and Benji will need be a big part of making that happen! Yeah right, they're finished with or without Benji! Posted by: Sammy Sefton, Sefton, Australia Reply

27/08/2008 3:01:40 AM I agree the Tigers are gone for this year, but has anyone else noticed that they havent made the finals since they won it in 05.And the reason for that I think is because they let Scott Prince go,he is the reason they won the games as it shows because the Titans were winning the comp this year until he got injured,Sheens should have tried harder to keep him at the Tigers. 28/08/2008 6:46:00 AM Dear Zel The Tigers wanted to keep Prince and did everything in their power to retain him but, at the end of the day, he just wanted to go home to the Gold Coast where he grew up. I agree they haven't looked like winning anything much since he left Posted by: greg duff, wollongong, Australia Reply
