NSW Origin centre Matt Cooper has extended his contract with with the Dragons for a further three years.

The announcement comes just hours after the 29-year-old centre was named to partner teammate Mark Gasnier in the Blues team for Origin I.

Cooper, who has played 149 NRL games with St George Illawarra since his debut in 2000, will now remain at the club until 2011 - long into the Wayne Bennett era.

"I have always said that I wanted to be a one club man and this new contract supports my aim," said Cooper.

"The Dragons have been such a big part of my life for many years and I am very happy to continue my career at the club.

"I feel I still have a lot to offer the Club and I see a very bright future here about which I am excited.

"It is a pretty big day for me.

"Being picked for Origin and knowing that I am staying at the Dragons … I couldn’t be happier," said Cooper, who enters Origin camp today.

The deal brings to an end speculation that Cooper would be lured by a UK Super League club at the end of the 2008 season.
